Attilio Cremonesi studied piano, organ and organ composition at the G. Nicolini Conservatory in Piacenza; he has participated in national and international organ competitions and has won several prizes.
From an early age he became interested in musical philology, deepening the study of performance practice on original instruments at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, while at the same time studying orchestral conducting.
As a soloist and chamber musician he has performed in some of the most important festivals and theaters in Europe, North and South America, Japan, North Africa and Australia.
In 1988, with the flutist Christoph Ehrsam he founded the instrumental ensemble “Arcadia”, with which he performed in various countries of Europe and South America and recorded numerous CDs of unpublished instrumental and vocal chamber music.
Some of his numerous recordings and videos have been awarded by international critics (Deutscher Schallplattenpreis, Diapason d’Or, 10 de Repertoire, Cecilia-prijzen).
Thanks to a multi-year collaboration with René Jacobs as a musical assistant, opera becomes the center of his musical interests.
Since then he has directed opera productions and concerts in important theaters and halls such as:
- Berlin Staatsoper;
- Theater an der Wien in Vienna;
- Théâtre du Champs-Elysée in Paris;
- Concertgebouw of Amsterdam;
- La Fenice of Venice;
- Mannheim Nationaltheater;
- Théâtre du Capitol in Toulouse;
- Angel Place in Sydney;
- Municipal Theater of Santiago de Chile.
He directed numerous Italian works from the sixteenth-eighteenth century in their first modern edition.
In the last 15 years he has devoted particular attention to the rediscovery of the unpublished operatic and symphonic repertoire of the classicism and romanticism, directing and playing compositions of very rare works or premiering the first modern performances.
He composed and arranged the missing parts of some works, such as the Prologue of “Dido and Aeneas” by H. Purcell and the recitatives of the musical pasticcio by L. Da Ponte “The musical bee”.
He is the author of the serenade “Il Combattimento amoroso” with music by G.F. Handel and the comic interludes “Serena and Fileno” to music by W. A. Mozart (of which he also composed the music of the recitatives). He is also the art director and conductor of the crossover oratorio “Jazziah”, inspired by the Messiah by G.F. Händel, in collaboration with the jazz player, guitarist and composer Domenico Caliri.
Attilio Cremonesi regularly collaborates with:
- the Beethoven Symphony Orchestra of Bonn;
- the Symphonic of Munich;
- the national orchestra of the Capitol of Toulouse;
- the Akademieorchester of Potsdam;
- the Philharmonic Orchestra of Santiago de Chile, of which he was the first guest conductor from 2017 to 2020.
For several years he has collaborated in a duo with Anna Fontana in the rediscovery, execution and recording of the repertoire for fortepiano with 4 hands and two fortepianos.
